Take the #1 Tram from Park & Clarendon street towards South Melbourne and have your feet in the sand within 10mins. There is a good playground if you have kids and its a lovely place to walk along the bay. You could even hire a bike and take yourself to St Kilda if you were up to it!

I've never understood why people flock to St Kilda when this beach is so peaceful and clean.

The closest beach is South Melbourne Beach at the end of Albert Road (Kershaw Road at that end). It’s a beautiful beach close to the city.
