Lancaster Castle is a medieval castle in Lancaster in the English county of Lancashire. Its early history is unclear, but may have been founded in the 11th century on the site of a Roman fort overlooking a crossing of the River Lune. In 1164, the Honour of Lancaster, including the castle, came under royal control.
Castle, prison until very recently, court house and cafe - see where the Pendle Witches were tried and view hanging corner near the cafe. Some great views out the back! Just next to the Priory.
My husband is a huge lover of history and architecture, he advises this a great day out and has taken the kids often, there is a lot to see and do in and around the castle and he has visited multiple times.
