Truly experiential authentic tour (can be led by guide or self-tour). The tour guides are excellent and share info that you wouldn't get though a self-led tour.

The spectacular Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre (pronounced in-ka-meep) is the Okanagan’s newest family tourism destination. The state-of-the-art interpretive centre is an architectural marvel sensitively constructed into a hillside. Extensive indoor and outdoor exhibit galleries create a fun, interactive learning environment with hands-on displays, education stations and two multi-media theatre experiences. Discover the fascinating stories of Canada’s only desert and share in the rich living culture of the Okanagan people.

It's an amazing building architecturally, but it's also the best place around to check out First Nations culture and art

As you explore the indoor exhibits, outdoor displays and walking trails you will get a chance to learn about how plants were used for food, medicine and technology. We have over 1.5kms of desert walking trails on our 50 acre site where you can experience the beauty of our sage and antelope-brush in the natural desert environment. The trails lead to a traditional village where you can peek inside a traditional pit house and sweat lodge. Bring your camera to photograph the desert landscapes and sculptures by Smoker Marchand found throughout centre. In the summer months come and meet our interpreters giving daily trail walks and making presentations like our Snakes Alive program. Check out our Events Calendar for program details.
