Descendants of the Portuguese who conquered Malacca live here. There are a number of restaurants that serve delicious Portuguese or Cristang food and the whole settlement is beautifully decorated for Christmas. Popular food would be Portuguese baked fish and fried squid.

Portugese Settlement is the forgotten place for many people. People nowadays go to Portugese Settlement for seafood instead of remembering its historic meaning. Descendants of the Portugese settled down here since the 16th century and this is where it began.
