The closest entry point for climbing Mt Taranaki, doing the Puakai Circuit, or doing some of the shorter walks up on the Mountain.

About a 30 minute drive from Ancombe. It is a great hub for walking tracks of any length from an hour or so to overnighters or even the summit. Check out the map on my wall for details, the Department of Conservation website, or just pop into the Visitor's Centre at North Egmont for advice on which routes to take and what to prepare for. Basic gear list would include: a pack with... spare thermal tops and bottoms, raincoat (even if it looks sunny!), first aid kit, water, food.

Only a quick drive from here to Mt Egmont/Taranaki. There is a visitors centre and cafe and lots of lovely safe tracks to walk on either in the bush or up the mountain depending on your level of fitness. Something for everyone and a MUST do while you are in Taranaki.

Drive up Mount Taranaki and visit the visitors centre for information about the mountain and cafe. There are plenty of walking tracks if out in the great outdoors is your thing!
