Easy half-miler, well-maintained with informational signs. Great for young kids or the less mobile. Stellar scrambling and bouldering available in the surrounding (and breathtaking) rock formations for the more adventurous.

On the west side of the campground, the half mile Indian Cove nature trail features information on the local plants and animals of the Mojave. Desert tortoise sightings are not unusual during spring and early fall. Great hike for kids.

This is a small hike with big views and few people. Indian Cove is a separate enclave not connected to the central part of the National Park making it a great option for busy days in the National Park. Indian Cove is located between the town of Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms. The nature trail is accessed by driving through the Indian Cove National Park campground approximately 4 miles from the highway. There are few of the iconic Joshua Trees in this area, but the rock formations and views across the valley are unparalleled. The trail is a loop that is less than a mile, but there is plenty of exploring and rock scrambling to do near the trail head to make it worth the visit.

Educational, beautiful and close by walk in the National Park. One of our favorites.

0.6 mile loop trail that’s mostly flat. This is technically inside Joshua Tree and is free, but does not lead to the rest of the park. There are some rock formations for bouldering.
