Svoje današnje obrise Dominikanski samostan je dobio u XIV. stoljeću,...savršeno se uklopivši u gradske zidine s kojima je predstavljao obranu grada. Zbog svog izuzetno osjetljivog strateškog položaja kojega su Dominikanci izabrali za svoj dom, gradnja ovog kompleksa, započeta 1228. godine, bezrezervno je podržana od dubrovačke vlasti. Elementi različitih stilova, romanike, baroka, gotike i renesanse ovdje se isprepliću u savršenom skladu i harmoniji. Sama crkva je jedan od najreprezentativnijih gotičkih prostora istočnog Jadrana. Kada mu je, u XV. st. prigrađena sakristija, kapitularna dvorana i trijemovi klaustra, samostanski kompleks poprima svoj konačni oblik.

The Dominicans founded a monastery in Dubrovnik 1225. year. It consists of complexes of buildings including the church of St. Dominic, bell tower, cloister and three monastic wings. Priory Museum contains valuable manuscripts and 217 incunabula, paintings of Dubrovnik painters of the 15th and 16th centuries and altarpiece "St. Magdalena", by famous Italian painter Titian from 1550. The church is one of the largest Gothic buildings on the east coast. Recently near the monastery was filmed series Game of Thrones and movie Star Wars.

Outside, the Dominican Monastery resembles a fortress but the interior contains an art museum and a gothic-reneissance church. A special treasure kept within is the library with 216 incunabula, numerous illustrated manuscripts, a rich archive with precious documents and an extensive art collection

The Dominican museum is located within the monasterys cloister. It houses the most important works by the Dubrovnik Painters School dating to the 15th and 16th centuries, canvases by Božidarević, Hamzić and Dobričević, votive jewelry, relics, manuscripts, incunabulas, valuable documents, bulls from various popes, an icon of the Virgin Mary with child and Titians painting of St. Blaise, Maria Magdalena and the angel Rafael, which was recently restored. A large cross, the work of Paolo Veneziana from the 14th century, is found in St. Dominics Church. Working hours in summer (1 May - 31 October): 9.00 am - 6.00 pm Working hours in winter: 9.00 am - 5.00 pm
