Late Iron Age fort which may have been the principle centre or oppidum of the Novantae tribe. Later Roman siege camps of the 2nd century AD are thought to be punitive measures taken by the Romans after the uprising of 155 AD. An outpost of Hadrian's Wall and right on our doorstep! It's a good walk to the top but the views are spectacular - you will see the Solway Firth and the Lakeland Hills (on a clear day!)
