The grave of the important Cretan writer Nikos Kazantzakis (1883-1957) is located at the highest point of the walls that surround Heraklion. His grave is austere with a wooden cross and a plaque engraved with his famous phrase: "I hope for nothing. I fear nothing. I'm free". That is my favourite spot in the whole city, you are able to see everything and you can have a nice stroll on the walls from one side of the centre to the other. Highly recommended!

On the Venetian walls of the city the place that the most famous Cretan writer Nikos Kazantzakis rests. It is a spot that many visitors miss, and it can be combined for an evening walk on the Venetian Walls of the city. You can get there from a stairway on Evans street.
