Kachka is tied for my favorite restaurant in Portlands. It's slightly more upscale, but not pretentious and there is often an hour or so wait time. You can also try the slightly more casual Kachinka, which has a more limited bar-centric menu. But, I recommend the original if you're a slightly adventurous eater. The menu is intimidating - full of pickled fish and unusual combinations. The flavors are amazing, though, almost no matter what you order. It is recognized as one of Portland's best for good reason.

Salt n' Straw may be better known, but I prefer this other Portland ice cream place with unusual, gourmet flavors, but less waiting time. The ice cream and cones are fantastic!

Teote is terrific! Venezuelan-style corn arepas are the frame for wonderful stewed meats, veggies and latin flavor. This place is not very expensive, but the food and vibe are wonderful.

This trendy bar and music venue has a variety of music, with a lot of electronic and hip hop. There is a fire pit in the back and a large outdoor area, which is sometimes covered if its rainy and a big artist is playing. The menu recently switched to vegan and plant based, but they have the best Impossible Burger in town.

The Slammer Tavern in a classic Portland dive bar. It's known for garish strings of Christmas lights, cheap, stiff drinks and a rowdy crowd.

Creepy's is one strand of the Portland weird scene worth exploring. The decor may be creepy, but the crowd tends to be laid back and the location is central to the nightlife area in SE.
