Fintry is a village in central Scotland, nestled in the strath of the Endrick Water between the Campsie Fells and the Fintry Hills, some 19 miles (30.5 km) north of Glasgow. It is within the local government council area of Stirling. The 2011 census results report that Fintry and the surrounding rural area had a population of 717. The centre of the village along Main Street has been designated a Conservation Area by Stirling Council.

Food scene

The Fintry Inn first opened its doors in 1750 and has recently reopened with Masterchef contestant Lisa Addison stepping into the role of Head Chef. The pub has an on-site micro brewery, called Mosaik, with two of their own beers on tap. On the premises there is also a bottle shop and artisanal whisky bottlers (The Uncharted Whisky Co.) for take-away, where you can also buy cuban cigars.

The cafe provides hot drinks, cakes and treats for takeaway as well as a sit down lunch and brunch menu. The Farm includes a shop and an artisan dairy, which stocks a number of restaurants across Scotland as well as all Scottish Waitrose stores. It is a 4 min drive or a 20min walk from Overglinns West.

The Sports club sits on the closest edge of the village and is a 3 min drive or a 25min walk from Overglinns West

Rhubarb & Lime is a family run coffee shop, delicatessen and wine shop in the beautiful Stirlingshire village of Kippen. They have absolutely superb cakes and there is a corner shop opposite for supplies.

Sightseeing

The Loup of Fintry, a 94ft waterfall of Endrick Water. This is best seen after prolonged rain or snowfall. The Loup of Fintry car park is 13 minutes drive from Overglinns West, or a 1hr 45min walk.

Culcreuch Castle is a castle in the foothills of Fintry. The castle was built in 1296 by Maurice Galbraith and was the clan seat of the Clan Galbraith in 1624, when the Laird of Culcreuch was denounced as a rebel, forced to give up the castle and escaped to Ireland. It was later used to garrison Cromwell’s troops. It passed through a number of families over the centuries, finally becoming a hotel in the 1980s, before closing in 2020 for refurbishment. The castle is a 30min walk from Overglinns West.

Carron Valley reservoir and forest lies between Fintry and Denny on the B818. The tops of Meikle Bin and Tomtain Hill provide panoramic views of the whole of Central Scotland and there are leisurely walks along the reservoir and forests, and picnic spots, as well as mountain bike trails. The main car park is 20min drive though you can reach the closer Todholes Car Park in 12 min and walk there in under 2hrs.
