The museum’s new Screens Series shows films by internationally acclaimed filmmakers like Apichatpong Weerasethakul and one of my favorites, indie director Abel Ferrara. There’s also a great calendar of film symposia and discussions with an eye on how cinema fits into the world of visual art, which is very inspiring. General admission is $18 or $12 for students. On Thursdays between 7 pm and 9 pm, you can pay what you wish. The suggested minimum is $2.
Designed by Pritzker prize winning SANAA, the New Museum is right around the corner from the apt and has fantastic contemporary art collection and amazing views from the top floor! Not to be missed!
Great Museum in the Lower East Side featuring new exhibits year round of world renowned artists.
As the only contemporary art museum in Manhattan, the New Museum prides itself on its mission of showcasing new art and new ideas created by artists from around the world. Founded in 1977 by Marcia Tucker, a former curator at the Whitney Museum of Art, the eight-level museum is a work of art itself…
This is actually also the location of the New Musuem, but the attached store is pretty cool, too.
Free, 1st Saturday of every month, 10 AM - 12 PM. Free, under age of 18. Pay as you wish, Thursdays 7 PM - 9 PM.

“This popular park in the middle of the East Village is a perfect centerpiece for its eclectic neighborhood, which houses artists, radicals, fashion lovers, and those who have lived in the neighborhood for decades and witnessed its many changes. The performances hosted by the park are as unique as its visitors: the annual lineup includes the outdoor drag festival Wigstock, the Howl Festival commemorating Allen Ginsberg, and the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival. Along with its excellent people-watching, the park is equipped with two playgrounds, a handball court, chess tables, and a basketball court. ”
