If you want to experience the real Oakland, come here on Friday nights when the museum throws its weekly party. The courtyards are packed with families for the live music, dancing, food trucks, and outdoor amphitheater. It’s really a community party, with a diverse crowd. Good news for thirsty parents: they have a cash bar. Friday nights are also a good time to see the museum itself, since they offer half-price gallery tickets for adults, and free entry for kids. Hit the galleries right at 5 pm, then go back outside for the music at around 6:30.
Excellent museum with various historical and arts exhibits on local themes. A unique place to learn about Oakland's culture and history. Great programming for kids, too!
Amazing museum with special exhibits, history of California and Oakland, and science Perfect museum for both kids and Adults
Local treasure. Focusing on California. Special exhibits have featured Dia de Los Muertos, Ray and Charles Eames, and the Art of Burning Man. Check out the Friday Nights at the Museum events. Outdoor maze like sculpture garden is great and open to the public for no fee.
Great Museum, the architecture is amazing and worth the trip - but they always have an interesting exhibit. Friday nights food trucks, and dancing and open late until 9pm
