and Lava River National Recreation Trail. A hike through a truly unique landscape. NASA trained astronauts here in the 60’s to prepare them for terrain on the moon. The observatory is more than worth the drive up highway 242.
The coolest lava flow viewpoint in Central Oregon, and its part of the loop we always send our friends and family on who are visiting Central Oregon for the first time. (Dee Wright > Proxy Falls > Blue Pool > Koosah Falls > Sahalie Falls > Sisters).
Nature at its best! Amazing lava fields for miles that make you feel like your on the moon.
Driving Hwy 242 to or from Sisters to McKenzie Bridge is a beautiful, scenic drive. At the top is the Dee Wright Observatory, worthy of a stop to look at the Cascade Mountains laid out in front of you. We won't spoil the details, but the observatory is an interesting building and worth checking out!…
This observatory gives you an excellent view of the awesome landscape and volcanic history of Central Oregon.
