The Acropolis of Kavala, built around the first quarter of 15th century, stands at the top of Panagia peninsula where the old town is situated. It was built on the remains of the Byzantine Acropolis of Christoupolis (former name of Kavala) which was destroyed in 1391, incorporating parts that survived from it. The various fortification interventions are quite obvious and were carried out by Byzantines, Venetians and Ottomans.

You will be able to see where the castle is on what is known as the old part of the city and you will see a road climbing up into that area. The road is full of little touristy shops selling souvenirs. You will also see many restaurants. If you follow the road all the way you will come to a church and you will see that there is a set of stairs which double back towards the castle. That is the fastest way to the Castle and it will be sign posted. There are other ways to the Castle but they involve trial and error.

Visit Castle at the at the top of old town

It is an amazing place to visit .You can go either with car either on foot I consist you better on foot to walk on the traditional street and explore the shops there .In my opinion it’s a well worth it historical site to visit not only because you learn a lot of information but also it has a wonderful overall view of the city.
