Red Rock State Park is a 286 acre nature preserve and environmental education center with stunning scenery. Trails throughout the park wind through manzanita and juniper to reach the rich banks of Oak Creek. Green meadows are framed by native vegetation and hills of red rock.

Beautiful in West Sedona, only a short drive from the cottage and you miss tourist traffic!

Red Rock State Park -- Lower Red Rock Loop Road. This park offers a variety of interpretive hikes and ranger led activities for the whole family. Park facilities at Red Rock State Park include a visitor's center, theater, gift shop, picnic tables, beautiful, natural developed trails, restrooms, and a group area with ramada. Restrooms are handicapped accessible. The park's 286 acres were originally part of the Smoke Trail Ranch, owned by Jack and Helen Frye. Lots of trails in Sedona. I recommend doing a lesser know trail if you are good at trail finding/maintaining. One of the best local resources is COSMIC RAYS HIKING book for both Flagstaff and Sedona. This book lists both the well traveled and touristy hikes and some great lesser done ones. Depends on your fitness, interest in hiking, and time you want to be out hiking. Let me know if you need a trail recommendation! I have the book if you want to borrow it!!
