Get here early if you plan to spend the day, it is a busy place, often a long wait in line, one car in one car out. Park pass required. Breathtaking views and hikes. This is in the forest, higher up in elevation: For a winter snow shoe check the wind forecast prior to heading here. anything past 15 miles per hour will be a miserable day. In the summer: take a hoody, jacket, beenie hat, and long pants, its about 10-20 degrees cooler here than the Cabin location. Prepare for a day hike with food and water. Bring bear spray if you have it, as this is bear country, moose, and dear, and mountain lions. Easy to moderate trails, nothing too difficult, other than the elevation. Drink a lot of water at higher elevations to avoid getting sick. If you don't want to hike, its a great place to drive up, do a short walk, and have a picnic. Plenty of tables, a large visitors center, with CLEAN public restrooms.

Brainard Lake is a still relatively less travelled entry point into the Indian Peaks (say compared to Estes Park or Hessie). And the views don’t disappoint, as you’re starting at 10,000 feet. Lake Isabelle is a favorite and closest, and for those up for a longer hike; keep going to Buchanan Pass and the Divide for breathtaking views. Entry fees apply.
