The Lion Monument is a sculpture hewn in 1820–21. It commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution. The American writer Mark Twain praised the sculpture of a mortally-wounded lion as "the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world." (src: wikipedia)

This unique place is less than a Five Minute walk from the apt. Well worth the time to see this beautiful Monument (it is free)

The Lion Monument is located in the center of Lucerne and reminds in the allegory of a dying lion to the Swiss Guardsmen who fell on 10th August 1792 at the Tuileries Tower in Paris
