My recommendation for a quick tour of the area is to rent a car and drive up north along Mission Blvd. Take a left on La Jolla Blvd and in a few miles turn left on to Palomar Ave. Follow the road along the coastline for half a mile. Turn right on to Nautilus St. and follow the road all the way up…
On a clear day, you get a 360 degree view that includes La Jolla Shores Beach, Miramar Air Station, Mission Bay and even the hills of Tijuana! The Memorial plaques are beautifully respectful of the men and women who have served our country.
Mount Soledad is one of the most prominent landmarks in San Diego. On top of the mountain you’ll see the Mount Soledad cross, a national veterans memorial dedicated to veterans, living or deceased, from the revolutionary war to the present. The 251 meter tall hill is located in La Jolla, a seaside…
Want a 360 degree view of all of San Diego? Drive to the top of Mt Soledad (less than 10 minute drive) to get this amazing view!
3 miles up the hill is the Mt Soledad Cross that serves as a Veterans Memorial with spectacular 360 degree views of PB, La Jolla and downtown San Diego. On really clear days, you can see all way to Dana Point and Catalina to the north, and Tijuana and the Coronado Islands to the south.
Highly recommended site for amazing views of PB, Mission Beach, and La Jolla. FREE! Drive to the top of the mountain and enjoy the view.
Come here during sunset and get a 360 degree view of San Diego. You'll be able to see Mission Bay, Downtown, Coronado, and Mexico to the South and La Jolla to the North.
Incredible Views of Pacific Beach, La Jolla and surrounding areas. FREE admission and parking.
Obviously for self reflection for all our brave Veterans and also (IMHO) the #1 best viewpoint in all SanDi.
A monument high on top of the hill. Great views of San Diego and even Mexico. I love to reflect up there and take time to thank our Veterans
Nice view of the town, great place for a picnic and a bit of local World War II history at this memorial

“The walk up to Kate session park is definitely worth the sweat. Follow opal street up and cross foothill boulevard (watch out this is a busy street you might have to wait till someone stops). From here on the walk becomes much steeper but it isn’t for too long until you walk through a nice upper class neighborhood to the long waited park. WATCH OUT: even though this park is officially listed as leash-only park, 90% of the dog owners do not obey the rule and there are plenty of dogs running around everywhere.”
