One of the most rewarding day trip on the Gold Coast for kids and adults. Try to stay around for the sunset. Lorikeet feeding. Tree top walk. Great day out as an alternative to a beach day. :-)
Lamington National Park, see the O'Reillys birdshow. Go for rainforest walks or feed the birds in the car-park. King Parrots & Rosella's mostly but certainly lots of others. 1.5 hr drive each way.
Fun day out. Stunning views, hand-feed birds, climb to the treetops.
If you like tranquility, walks , and wild life ,then this place is worth visiting, it’s a long drive but worth it !
This is located in the Border Ranges directly above Gwandeenah, however you must drive 100 km around the ranges to get there. Well worth the drive. check out their website.
A great place to visit and a lovely day trip for all ages Loads of history Great food Feed the wild birds Shopping in their unique souvenir shop See the replica of the Stinson plane that crashed and read story behind it😍😇

“The restaurant is only 10 mins up the road. It has great food and live music. You can feed the alpacas and watch the toad racing. Just a great place to visit.”

“CLOSED after Sept 2019, when Bushfires destroyed the 90 year old lodge and surrounding accomodation & service facilities. Since Sept 2020 the Rainforest Campsite and Skylodges have reopend. Plans and capital raising are underway to reconstruct the Lodge is some form in the future. Historically significant Binna Burra Mountain Lodge, at 800-metres above sea level, was established in the 1930s by the Groom and Lahey families.”

“Australian meat pies are usually very good, the ones at the Outpost Cafe are the best we have had. They have a range of other food too. We often have lunch there. ”

“Kooroomba is stunning and worth a visit! Just make sure you check their Facebook page, as they are often closed for weddings. The restaurant is pricey but amazing. They do have an alternative menu for outside - scones, etc. Wine tasting is wonderful too. Highly recommend!”

“Great destination to explore the rainforest and hinterland and if you wish do a walk. Take a picnic , leave early (8-9am) and drive to Canungra - a lovely town at the base of the rainforest world heritage area. Take a left turn towards O’reillys rainforest retreat Grab a coffee and check out the wonderful second hand book and vintage clothing store just near the turnoff. Head up the mountain past the Canungra pub and enjoy the scenic spectacular trip up the mountain to O’reillys (about 45 mins). Once you arrive (is the end of the road) park your car and walk along the amazing treetops rainforest suspended walkway - a short easy stroll but with magnificent views of the rai forest canopy - if you are brave climb up the ladder to the two viewing platforms for a once in a lifetime view across the great dividing range national park. If you would like to do a slightly longer walk I highly recommend the morans falls and lookout walk - it leaves from a carparking area about 5 -10 min drive back down the Canungra road - you will see the signs on the left hand side - usually there are other cars parked by the road at this point also . The round trip will take about 2-3 hrs but you walk through true rainforest , see a great waterfall and experience panoramic views out from the escarpment edge - so really worth the effort - the falls is also a great place to enjoy your picnic lunch too . Once you have walked back to your car if you have time zip back to O’reillys picnic area to hand feed the wild parrots as the arvo is usually the best time for this - take some bird seed from the unit to save you having to purchase it . Then head back down the mountain through Canungra and back to surfers - which will take about 1.5 hrs or so . ”
