Amazingly picturesque canal. This runs from Cromford through to Ambergate. There is now a canal boat that runs part of the Canal for short trips. At Cromford there is a large car park and cafe. You can park here and walk the canal. There are other alternative stops and starts , with a small amount of parking at Whatstandwell (near the Family Tree tea rooms). There is also a cafe situated along the canal and the historic pump house that is open a specific times in the year.

A picturesque and relaxing place to walk on the flat, Cromford Canal was once a buzzing hub of the Derbyshire Industry. The Canal was last used as a working waterway in 1944.

If you want a change from hillwalking, try Cromford Canal. There’s a cafe at the start and in the adjoining Arkwright Mills ( largely restored and the birthplace of the factory system). Only 10 minutes drive from the Barn or you can walk via the HighPeak Trail.

lots of walks nearby, but if you like it easy the walk along the Cromford canal is flat and the tearooms off it are great: The Family Tree at Whatstandwell, Oakford Cottage Tearooms, Whatstandwell, Homesford cottage along the A6 and Wheatcroft's Wharf Café near Cromford.
