Secret local walk along a canal that leads down to Glebe Foreshore park. There's a dog park, kids play equipment and delicious gelato (at Tramsheds) to be found along the way. Start near Sterling circuit rather than the point on the map.

From Nielsen Park you can walk the Hermitage Foreshore walk which is right on the harbour over rocks and through bush with great views back to the city. There's a tiny beach called Milk Beach along the way that probably won't have many people there. Up the hill is the old Strickland House.

Get to the south end of Maroubra beach and go for a walk along the headland. Quiet place with big rock ledges and the odd cliff fisherman. Maroubra beach is good for surf but be careful if you're not used to it because it can be rough.

A quieter little beach than the surrounding ones. It's small and calm with nice rock ledges around the sides for sitting on without getting sandy. Parking around here on nice summer days can be hard (like most Eastern Suburbs beaches).
