Food Scene

We recommend the Garlic Shrimps to start as well as trying the traditional Portuguese steak for a main course. Generally easy to be seated before 8pm - after this time booking a table is recommended. Cocktails available and very tasty! Occasionally hosts love music nights. The restaurant is named 'Casa da Praia' and is located at the entrance of the promenade down to Foz beach.

Caldas da Rainha is the largest nearby town and located in it's centre is Parque Dom Carlos I. The majority of the park is shaded by huge and beautiful trees making it pleasant to walk there in hot weather. Near the entrance is an outdoor coffee shop and large children's play area as well as rowing boats available for hire on the park's charming featured pond. We recommend trying the traditional Portuguese custard tart; Pastella de Nata!

The daily market that takes place in the centre of Caldas is a worthwhile visit if you want to experience the most traditional routines of Portuguese life or to purchase fresh fruit, vegetables, salad, fish and deli-style products for your own cooking. The market begins very early and is usually packed away by midday so get there early to see everything on offer.

Essentials

This local mini-supermarket is good for essentials and dry goods. Milk, butter, ham, cheese and baby foods are all available here as well as other items. For fresh bread, fruit and veg we would recommend another mini supermarket down the street - located on the same road past the surf camp. Fresh bread tends to sell as soon as the shops open so get there early for a good choice. We recommend trying the locally-loved Corn Bread.
