Did someone say BBQ? Here's the place. You cannot go wrong with their brisket, pork ribs, giant burgers, smoked turkey or fried catfish. Or anything else they have. Get their mac and cheese if you are wanting some serious comfort food! They serve beer and wine, and sometimes they've got live music.

We can honestly say that Bruno's has some of the best pizza, anywhere. Try one of their regionally inspired pizzas, like the green chile chicken Alfredo. If you need a great starter, our favorite is the jalapeno and onion straws. Or maybe the fried pickles. They serve beer and wine, and will deliver around the corner to the brewery.

K-Bob's has the famous "Salad Wagon" (it's not a salad bar, it's a dang wagon!) that includes all your salad faves and comes with a home made soup and a simple dessert. They also make a mean Reuben sandwich as well as a full menu of classic American fare.

Excellent Mexican food at an affordable price. Not one bit fancy, but the food is great. Los Chanquis has more shrimp on the menu than anywhere else in town, and even offers ceviche. They also have a full range of Jarritos bottled sodas, and the best Coca Cola (in case you didn't know, that's the made in Mexico version, with cane sugar, in a glass bottle). Only a couple blocks down from you! You can get it to go and wander over to the little park down the street for a picnic.

The Shuler Theater opened its doors in 1915, and is amazingly well preserved and absolutely beautiful. You can often find the doors open if you'd like to take a tour--don't miss the original WPA-era artwork that is inside. If you can catch a show there, do it!

Parks & Nature

Only 15 minutes from Raton is Sugarite (we say Sugar-eet) Canyon State Park. Three lakes for fishing or kayaking (hey, you can rent kayaks from us in the summer), plenty of hiking/biking trails, and a number of campgrounds. Stop at the ranger station and do the interpretive hike that starts there if you want to get out and stretch your legs but don't have hours to kill.
