If you're new to the south, Ole Time is a great place to experience "southern hospitality" first hand. The food is good, filling, and decently priced. Not recommended for vegans -- it's mostly pork and pig kitsch decoration which can get a bit strange, if you're not used to it.

I'd like to call it the best, but it's so different from the other chicken and waffles joint in the Triangle. You really must try both.
