Food Scene

Have breakfast at a popular local cha chaan teng (translated: tea restaurant) right around the corner called: Kam Fung Cafe. Once you leave the apartment make a left and walk until you see Ginza West and make another left; walk down the steps and to your left is the popular breakfast joint. They are well known for their dense pineapple bun (compared other lighter versions served around the city) and cold HK style milk tea (they chill the tea rather than add ice cube to not dilute the flavor). Locals like to have noodles or macaroni for breakfast; you can give that a try. I prefer set B (noodles + beef satay, pineapple bun and fried egg)

For lunch I would suggest taking the tram to Central (westward). You can use the Octopus card to pay for the trams; you can top up the value on the card at any convenience store. You can have arguably one of Hong Kong's best roast goose at Yat Lok (34 Stanley Street). The restaurant is cramped like most local eateries. Otherwise head towards Kau Kee (21 Gough Street) for their famous beef brisket noodles. Across Kau Kee is also a well known outdoor eatery, called a Da Pai Dong. There outdoor restaurants were iconic of Hong Kong but now there are few left.

Sightseeing

After breakfast you can check out Wanchai market. It is closest market. If you follow Cross Street directly across from Kam Fung, you should be able to see vendors set out selling random merchandise. Different parts of the street sell different things (herbs, toys, dried goods, meats, vegetables and noodles). Eventually you will reach the indoor section of Wanchai market. The government created the indoor market to improve on the sanitation of the "wet market." An interesting history is that our development used to be situated on wedding card street apart of the Wanchai market area. Hence, in the Chinese name of our development uses the character of "double happiness" associated with marriag

If you ate lunch at Yat Lok or before heading to Kau Kee, check out the longest escalator system in the world. Its called the mid-level escalator (Jubilee St) that connects Central to the Midlevels, where most expats hang out. I found it quite interesting there is a huge system of escalators outdoors.

Walk west and you will head into the antique section of town (part of Hollywood Road, Upper Lascar Row and Cat Street). I found some interesting pieces here before.

After hunting for antiques, you can check out the somewhat smelly dried seafood street (on Des Voeux West and around Bonham Strand). Here you can find prized dried abalone and sea cucumber. In recent years shops are stocking less of shark fin due to greater awareness of the cruelty in the hunting practices
