The old village of Gorfigliano with it's 'castle' and church have been completely restored by volunteers and a museum opened in 2009. The small museum, houses a vast collection of artefacts relating to quarrying, woodcutting, blacksmithing, carpentry and the like. The view from here is is breathtaking.

Getting Around
Train station in Piazza al Serchio is about 10 minutes drive from the villa. There is free parking at the station. There are connections to places like Lucca (and onto Florence), Aulla and Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. There is a bus service to Castelnuovo too, which can be handy on market day as it gets very busy and parking is hard to find.
