Shopping

Just 10 minutes walk you can go to the Centro Comercial Santa Fe for shopping, there's a variety of shops and cervices including supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants, fashion shops, Fallabella department store, banks and more. Important: If it is your first time in Bogota, please be mindful when walking outside the community gated as Bogota has dangers, like thieves waiting to steal your phone, wallet, jewellery or valuables, preferably don't carry on you large amounts of money or expensive jewellery and keep your phone and valuables safe. Don't take taxis on the street, call them or use share drive applications like Uber. Also avoid walking around Bogota alone in the evenings, for safety.

Food and groceries

Just 10 minutes walk from the house you'll also find the Centro Comercial Autopista 184, this has a Carulla Supermarket for quick groceries shopping and a few restaurants, including seafood, pizza and traditional food... try 'el chocolo' for some typical Colombian pastries and the 'lechoneria' for the typical filled pork 'lechona'. Just be careful when walking outside the gated community as thieves can be around anywhere in Bogota.

Public transport

Transmilenio is Bogota's public transport system, just 10 minutes walk from the house you can find the entrance to the station by walking on the pedestrian bridge. You can buy tickets at the entrance of the station and travel to different areas of the city. Please avoid peak time where possible as buses can be too full and thieves may take advantage and 'pick-pocket' you, or order a taxi/Uber. For more information visit the transmilenio website

Pack a jacket, an umbrella, sunglasses and a t-shirt

If you have never been to Bogota you may not know that it is a city over the mountains (2600 meters over sea level) and is mostly referred as a 'cold weather' region; so temperatures can get very low, especially in the evenings. During the day, in a sunny day the temperatures can rise up to 24 degrees Celsius but in the evenings they can drop up to -4 cold. In an average day you'll have clouds and sun and maybe some rain; daily temperatures range between 16 & 20 degrees, and it rains often so it is always good to pack an umbrella. In summary, be ready for all the weathers in one package!

Keep your belongings close and your phone in your pocket

We love Bogota, is a lovely city and people are very nice, but there's some people that like 'stealing for a living', you never know where they may be so you should always be alert. So just keep your belongings with you all the time, hold your bag tight, don't carry your phone in your hands, don't show off your expensive jewellery in the streets and if you're careful, you'll be totally fine. One more thing, Bogota is not the place to be walking alone in lonely dark streets in the middle of the night...
