Hanging out places
Camden Market is what many people know Camden for but the area around Camden Town tube station is a world on its own and perhaps more real than Camden Market itself.
At weekends the whole area is heaving with locals and tourists and is a gift for people who like people watching. And don't forget the canal that runs through Camden is a great place for walking and is much much more peaceful.

Selfridges on Oxford street - at the other extreme from Camden Town - a palace of luxury consumption - definitely worth a wonder round - even if just for gawking at crazily expensive and beautiful things and the crazily rich people actually buying them. The Food Hall is definitely worth a visit.

Ridley road market in Hackney - very close to Dalston Junction 15 minutes on the overland train form Camden Road station. A big street market selling everything from fresh fish to underwear. Though Hackney and Dalston have become very trendy this market is still very diverse and most of the shoppers are local.
My favourite cafe is Cafe OTO https://www.cafeoto.co.uk which has a very laid back and unprentious feel to it and excellent food.

Ridley Road Market (Stop P) station
Ridley road market in Hackney - very close to Dalston Junction 15 minutes on the overland train form Camden Road station. A big street market selling everything from fresh fish to underwear. Though Hackney and Dalston have become very trendy this market is still very diverse and most of the shoppers are local.
My favourite cafe is Cafe OTO https://www.cafeoto.co.uk which has a very laid back and unprentious feel to it and excellent food.
Covent Garden used to be the market for fruit and veg for all of London's greengrocers (as featured in My Fair Lady) but since 1974 it has become another huge shopping complex. James Street outside the tube stations and Covent GardenPiazza are good places to see lots of living statues and street performers of all kinds - many outstandingly good. It is all very tourist focussed but is still good entertainment. And of course there are lots and lots of shops. Floral Street which runs off James street is good for small up market boutiques.

Brick Lane Market is an old favourite - but I haven't been for years. It used to be a real flea market with people selling all kinds of random junk as well as good stuff. A mix of Jewish/Asian residents so some great bagel shops and curry places.

Music venue
The Roundhouse has been one London’s great music and theatre venues since the 1960’s. It’s relatively small and the vibe is always great
I’ve seen the Living Theatre, Roland Kirk, Melanie, Kinks, Hot Tuna and more recently Mitski - the sound is always superb and there are great bars.
