It is a tourist village in Gwynedd, North Wales. It was designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975 in the style of an Italian village, and is now owned by a charitable trust. The village is located in the community of Penrhyndeudraeth, on the estuary of the River Dwyryd, 2 miles (3.2 km) south east of Porthmadog, and 1 mile (1.6 km) from Minffordd railway station. Portmeirion has served as the location for numerous films and television shows, most famously as "The Village" in the 1960s television show The Prisoner.
Open all year round from 9.30am to 7pm for day visits with reduced entry after 3.30pm. The village has 6 restaurants and cafes, shops, spa, information centre, an audio visual presentation and a resident artist's gallery. Free guided tours are available from the information centre near the entrance, during our peak season.

Barmouth is a popular seaside resort for families. Its big sandy beach has miles of unbroken sands that never gets overcrowded. There is a picturesque harbour too, perched on the mouth of the beautiful Mawddach Estuary. Fishing, sea and estuary trips depart from here. Barmouth is well located for watersports. There is easy access to the sea via a slipway on the beach, though a craft exclusion zone is in place to protect swimmers and there are also restrictions on dogs. As a fully fledged seaside resort Barmouth comes complete with all the expected amenities and attractions, shops, cafes and restaurants, good parking, amusements and entertainments. There's good disabled access to the beach too and the resort is well served by public transport.

Harlech Castle crowns a sheer rocky crag overlooking the dunes far below – waiting in vain for the tide to turn and the distant sea to lap at its feet once again.
No further drama is really required but, just in case, the rugged peaks of Eryri (Snowdonia) rise as a backdrop. Against fierce competition from Conwy, Caernarfon and Beaumaris, this is probably the most spectacular setting for any of Edward I’s castles in North Wales. All four are designated as a World Heritage Site.
Harlech was completed from ground to battlements in just seven years under the guidance of gifted architect Master James of St George. Its classic ‘walls within walls’ design makes the most of daunting natural defences.
Even when completely cut off by the rebellion of Madog ap Llewelyn the castle held out – thanks to the ‘Way from the Sea’. This path of 108 steps rising steeply up the rock face allowed the besieged defenders to be fed and watered by ship.
Harlech is easier to conquer today. An incredible ‘floating’ footbridge allows you to enter this great castle as Master James intended – for the first time in 600 years.

Guide to walking up Cader Idris
At 893 m (2,930 ft), Cader (or Cadair) Idris is one of the highest mountains in southern Eryri (Snowdonia). There are three recommended routes to conquer Cader. It’s not an easy walk by any means, whichever route you take. They are all designated ‘hard/strenuous’ routes, and you should allow between five to six hours to get there and back. You’ll need to take plenty of food and drink as there isn’t a café (or toilet) on the summit. Weekends and bank holidays usually get very busy on the mountain. If you'd prefer a quieter walk, head up on weekdays in spring or autumn. During cold weather the paths can be covered with snow and ice, so please don't attempt it unless you are experienced and properly equipped. Well-behaved dogs are welcome but please keep them on leads when there are sheep about. Please make sure you take your litter home and help to protect the fragile eco-system and wildlife by keeping to the designated paths for your own safety.

Cadair Idris Visitor Centre & Tea Room is 250 metres from the car park. The Minffordd path to the Cadair Idris summit passes by them.
The visitor centre houses an exhibition showcasing the wildlife, geology and legends of Cadair Idris National Nature Reserve. It includes interactive games, a short film about the making of the mountain and a film about work that Natural Resources Wales does for nature conservation here. Animated films tells of the legends of Idris the Giant. There is live infrared footage of rare lesser horseshoe bats in the roofspace.
The centre is owned by Natural Resources Wales, and managed in partnership with the staff of Ty Te Cadair Tea Room. Both the visitor centre and tea room are open seasonally.

This is your starting point then decide which route you are going to take from the map. Beware there is no phone signal climbing this track and so keep to the path.
