It's a bit of a drive, but if you have access to a car and any interest at all in air or space travel (or kids who love things that fly), the Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA is worth the trip. It has thousands of pieces on display, including the space shuttle Discovery, and it's free to visit (pay for parking).
