Cabinas Olas allows us and our guests to use their parking and their private path to reach the beach. You'll have the chance to cross a stunning mangrove. Always bring your camera, the light changes depending on the moment you'll be there.

We highly recommend to rent a car
A car rental (ideally a small SUV) is recommended to explore the area. The dirt roads can sometimes be a little rough but the ride worth the price! Avellanas is a remote place but you'll have the freedom to move around and discover the many other beautiful beaches and localities on the coast.
We are located at 75km (1h30m) from Liberia airport. You can rent a car there where all the main companies operate.

Bring food, enough cash and gas!
Avellanas is a small and quiet, remote place located 25 minutes south of Tamarindo, the region's touristic center. Avellanas beach is pristine, the waves are perfect for all types of surf without being too big. It is definitely a hidden gem. We have a few restaurants nearby but it is highly recommended to come with enough food because there are no supermarkets in the vicinity.
We also recommend to arrive in Avellanas with enough gas and cash because there are no gas station and bank or ATM machine in the area.

Coming to Playa Avellanas without surfing is like going to the movies without eating popcorn. The smooth waves of Avellanas are great for beginners. You have to try surfing, the feeling is wonderful. Moreover, the beach isn’t too crowded and you’ll feel comfortable taming the waves.

Gear up for the beach
During dry season, beaches can be cleared of vegetation. If you can, bring a beach tent. Do not forget sunscreen, beach towels and mats. You can also think about snorkelling gear. There are a lot of nice snorkelling spots along the Pacific Coast.
