Food scene

They have some of the best sandwiches I have ever had. An East Nashville staple. I highly recommend the turkey avocado. And if you're a vegetarian, sub seitan. So good.

I take all of my friends who visit Nashville to Folk. It's a open and bright and the food is so good. Plus it's very close to home :) They have a lot of small plates perfect for sharing. They're known for their pizzas, but I love exploring the other small plates, especially the vegetable dishes. Expect to leave full and spend around $50/person for a pizza, small plate and drinks.

This is a classic speakeasy where all are welcome. Tucked away. Red curtain entrance. Dark wood counters and great atmosphere. I have had some of my favorite nights and drinks in Nashville at The Patterson House. The bartenders are artists.

For any vegetarian visiting, this is a MUST. The Buffalo Beans & Greens bowl is so good. Also The Big Salad with the Chipotle Chorizo. No regrets!

It's just so good. If the place you went to for dinner doesn't have a great dessert menu, then GO HERE INSTEAD. Their flavors are amazing. If they have Savannah Buttermint in season while you're here, get it. I will live vicariously through you. (They also have very good lactose free options)

Probably my favorite coffee shop in Nashville. This one is located in Germantown and has really good food and drinks. Recommend: the Atlas and the Rested Butterscotch. The egg sandwich is also very good!

The older brother of The OG Basement, this is such a solid club. Check out who's playing tonight and swing by if you like them! This is a go-to for the local music scene.

I did a sixteen week residency here with my band, so I might be biased, but this is my favorite intimate venue in Nashville. I've had many magical nights here listening to music. If you can go, go!

I've been lucky enough to play the Grand Ole Opry many times. It's such a great energy and you get a sense of the history and importance music has in this city. The venue is part of the Opry Mills Mall, so it's maybe not what you'd expect from the outside, but the people and the energy can be transcendent.

Hands down the coolest venue in the city. They call it the "Mother Church" within the music circle. It's historic and sounds so good. Check their calendar and get a ticket to see your favorite band here when they come through. It's worth planning an entire trip around.

If you've never heard of a "Writers Round" or a "Guitar Pull" you should check out The Listening Room. Don't even look at who's playing tonight. Go and get dinner and wait... this is where every songwriter gets started and sometimes the famous ones come back. You'll have 3-4 artists on stage at once, and they go around taking turns telling stories and singing songs. It's fascinating and sometimes it's amazing. You don't usually recognize the hit songwriters but hearing them sing their songs and tell the stories behind them are why I fell in love with this city.

Sightseeing

A must do if you can: Go to Bicentennial Park during the day and find the circle of bells. Every 15 minutes they play a song, but on each hour they play the Tennessee Waltz and then chime the hour... listen closely though -- after the final chime, the bell tower on the Capitol building will respond with a single ring. It's really cool. It's meant to symbolize the people's call and the government's answer. Artists clearly built this part of the city.

Where else can you see a full size replica of The Parthenon. They used to call Nashville "The Athens of the South" and this was built as part of the World's fair. If you can get inside you'll see a giant statue of Athena in gold. Pretty wild to see it in Nashville.
