A new addition to Sifnos’ food scene, it only lives up to the already high expectations of “foodies” looking for traditional Sifnian cuisine with a twist. Using local and fresh ingredients, the chef has done a great job at providing guests with a unique culinary experience overlooking great views of Kastro and the Aegean. Be sure to check out the wine and cocktail list. Tip: it’s better to visit this restaurant on less windy days.

This village -that was once the capital of Sifnos- takes its name after the old Venetian Fortress, whose ruins you can still see today while walking through the neighbourhood. First, take a walk around the whole village, enjoying magnificent views over the Aegean and be sure to climb down the steps leading to the picturesque church of the Seven Martyrs ("Eftamartyros"). Then, enter the village from its old entrances - arcades, the "lozies", which used to seal in the past for the protection of the settlement like war towers and be amazed by the unique architecture of the settlement. In Kastro there is one Archaeological Museum of Sifnos, which includes marvelous collections of Archaic and Hellenistic sculptures. The old Elementary School opens its doors during the summer to host various exhibitions. If you are up for a swim, you can immerse yourself in the crystal clear water of Seralia beach or simply dive in from the rocks around the Seven Martyrs church.

Sightseeing

The monastery of Panagia Chrisopigi, the protector of Sifnos, situated on top of a rock emerging from the Aegean Sea will take your breath away. No wonder couples from all over the world choose this place for their wedding day. According to local tradition, in the Medieval ages, nuns would live in the monastery. After an invasion from pirates, the nuns ran to hide but one nun did not manage to leave on time. Chased by the pirates, the nun prayed on Virgin Mary to save her and this is when the rock of the monastery was cut in half and the pirates fell into the sea. This is the local explanation why the rock on which the monastery is built is separated from the rest of the island with a narrow stretch of sea. At the left of the church lies the bay of Apokofto, a quiet, sandy beach with crystal, turquoise waters and two local taverns serving Sifnian cuisine.

Beaches

Drive to Faros village and find the short path leading to the beach to the right of the port, just after the taverns. Stock up on water and snacks, because Glyfo beach is not organized. Shade is however easy to find under one of the many trees. The crystal clear waters, the golden sand and tranquility this beach offers will make you want to stay all day! Afterwards, stop by Faros, a fishermen's village and enjoy fresh fish and "mezedakia" with views over Chrissopigi monastery. To the right of the beach, you can see a path crossing the hill. This path (approximately 15 minutes) leads to Apokofto beach, the sandy beach next to Chrissopigi monastery. This is an alternative way to combine those two beaches in a day instead of driving to each one seperately!
