Beautiful fortified or “Bastide” town with a lovely square surrounded by restaurants, cafes and bars. Expect live music and a cosmopolitan and vibrant atmosphere and It’s only 12 minutes by car from House on the Hill. You can hire bikes here and enjoy the quiet roads to explore the area. Take a picnic and sit by the river maybe? As with most French towns there is a weekly market and usually a lot going on, especially in the summer months.

Food scene
Our local village and only 3 minutes by car from House on the Hill. This is where you can pick up some bread, buy some meat from the traditional butcher for a barbecue, as well enjoy an aperitif at a local bar. Our favourite cafe the “Rendezvous cafe” can be found here for an “English” breakfast after a big night out or the awesome Falafel burger which is a personal favourite! - Lauzun also has some truly striking architecture and history for such a small village. A lovely place for a Sunday morning stroll.

Maybe try “Quai Cyrano” which is a showcase of Bergerac wine with its fantastic tasting area, cloister and wine museum. Take a boat trip up the river, get an ice cream and buy some wine to bring back to your House on the Hill Gite to enjoy or maybe it will make it home with you!

A lovely Chateau overlooking Bergerac with great views, and the world famous Vineyards. Great for some lunch, wine tasting and visiting the Chateau and only 30 minutes from us on quiet roads passing other vineyards you could visit.

A lovely Chateau to explore only 20 minutes away. It’s the Chateau of games, so expect over 80 games of skill that kids and grown ups will love. A truly beautiful chateau, great photos to be taken and also nice for a coffee or glass of wine!

Tables gourmandes
Many towns in the region have “Tables Gourmandes” events at weekends where you can take your own plate and cutlery and buy food from the street sellers, find a table and enjoy the atmosphere, frequent live music and sometimes, just sometimes fireworks. A true local night out that is enjoyable, relaxed and fun.

Farmers shop
For super fresh and well priced fruit and vegetables turn right at the bottom of our driveway and go for about 1.5km to Ferme du Launalet. A small building on the right, has the best seasonal vegetables and fruit.
