Buck Island Reef National Monument, or just Buck Island, is a small, uninhabited, 176 acre (712,000 m²) island about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north of the northeast coast of Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. The monument also includes 18,839 acres of submerged lands totaling 19,015 acres. It was first established as a protected area by the U.S. Government in 1948, with the intention of preserving “one of the finest marine gardens in the Caribbean Sea. It has great a beautiful white sand beach and excellent snorkeling opportunities. Downtown Christiansted is where you can book your trip there but check out Big Beards charters as they are one of the best.

If you are looking for a short (but relatively intense) hike with incredible views, and a little historical value to boot, head for Ham’s Bluff. Located where St. Croix’s North Shore and West End meet, this 30-45 minute hike offers scenic vistas along the trail ending at the historic Ham’s Bluff Lighthouse, 360 feet above sea level.

Beaches
Cane Bay Beach is located on the North Shore of St. Croix in what is arguably the most beautiful area of the island. Located adjacent to, or just a short walk from the beach, are 4 waterfront restaurants, a full service dive shop, kayak rentals and horseback riding. Located right across the small coast road from the beach is eat@canebay. This classic beach bar serves delicious burgers and salads as well as some of the best entree's on the island for both lunch and dinner. Should you want to go SCUBA diving or snorkeling, Cane Bay Dive Shop has all the rental gear you will need.
You will also find a beautiful white sand beach with large areas in the water with a nice sandy bottom that is just perfect for swimming or simply taking a relaxing dip. You will also find some of the best snorkeling on St. Croix just off the beach. The breathtaking "Cane Bay Wall", which is about 150 yards from the shore in 35-40 feet of water, drops off dramatically to a depth of over 3,000 feet! The wall can be reached by both SCUBA divers and snorkelers alike.

There are some trees here that provide relief from the sun, and the park across the street is a great spot for young kids to play. With public restrooms, picnic tables, and plenty of space to spread out, you could easily spend the entire day here, relax, and then watch sunset. This beach has calm water, making this a area for paddle boarding, swimming and snorkeling.
