Coffee

When it's time to get your morning cup of coffee, the Bakery is the place to go. It's a popular local spot year-round. Don't worry if you see a line; it moves quickly and their offerings are worth the wait. They offer normal coffee selections (hot, iced, lattes, chai, tea, etc.) as well as baked goods that are made fresh every morning (muffins, croissants, bagels, etc.).

Dave's is a Rhode Island tradition. They roast all of their own beans locally. The shop itself is a quaint old house turned coffee shop. It's right off Route 1 for quick access. There's outside seating in their garden area which makes for a great way to start the day. A quick note on parking: the entrance is a narrow driveway up a hill off the highway; be sure to get off the highway completely and make sure no one is coming out first. Your best bet for parking is on the side street off the highway (you'll see lots of cars lined up there) then walk up the hill to the shop.

If you're heading up Route 1 north (towards Wakefield/Narragansett), take a stop at Java Madness. The vibe here is great as well as the views. It overlooks a boat yard and the salt pond. They do live music in house and have all sorts of sandwiches and baked goods as well as a great coffee selection.

The Breakfast Scene

The Ocean Mist is probably one of the most iconic places in Southern RI. It's "just a beach bar" that is a must see. Literally on the ocean, the Ocean Mist makes amazing brunch. It's a simple bar on the inside; there are no frills. But the atmosphere, food, and drink are what makes this so popular. For those looking for a morning brunch beverage, their Bloody Mary's on Sunday come topped with shrimp; or ask for the Coffee With Love for a pick-me-up. Brunch is served until 2PM, but get there early if you want seating (opens at 10AM). Despite being a bar, you'll find the morning here to be family friendly with a wide range of ages and a kid's menu. Even if you don't drink, the vibe here is great and worth the stop. Outside seating on the deck and next to the building are available. Check out their website for reservations as well.

Hear me out...Snug Harbor Marina is the hidden gem greasy spoon you are looking for. Tucked away in the back corner of Snug Harbor, the kitchen at the marina offers full breakfast and lunch. There's outdoor seating overlooking the marina and channel (all the way across to Galilee and the Block Island Ferry Landing). There's breakfast plates, sandwiches, and hot coffee. No frills, friendly staff, and a great view. It can get busy here but passing the time looking over the water with a coffee is great. They've even added some live music on the deck. Parking is in the marina lot, walk towards the dock and into the "Snack Bar". There's counter seating inside as well as the decks outside (up and down).

A great family spot for breakfast, T's is located right off of Route 1. They're a local chain with a few spots around RI. They have a massive breakfast menu that caters to all different diets. Plenty to eat here and a great setting. Lots of coffee flavors and quick service. They also have alcohol on the menu (mimosas, Bloody Mary's, etc.). All around a great spot and great for larger groups as well.

Sunny Side Up is an unassuming building located on a busy road, but they deliver a great breakfast experience. Their menu has a full range of great breakfast options and the service is great. It's a small place so it's best suited for couples or small groups. Parking is behind the building (near the car dealership).

Beaches

Charlestown Breachway is a state-owned beach. It's a great beach that is next to the breachway (the inlet for Ninigret Pond). You'll find some great shore break and overall a great family beach. The facilities here are limited to bathrooms so you'll have to pack some food if you plan on staying the day. Parking fills up very quickly so getting in line before the lot even opens is your best bet. There's a sign 2 miles before the entrance to the beach that will let you know if parking is full so you don't have to make the drive all the way down.
