Food here is delicious, service a little formal. One of the best restaurants in Samoens, just a short way out of town

Fabulous Savoyard - the name means Maple Leaf - and there are many local specialities, fondues, meats and cheese. Really friendly local ladies run this place and it is always stacked with locals and French diners: always a good sign. Six is a short 10 minute drive out of town, not walkable re.

Mountain hut restaurant close to Samoens on the way home. Friendly service: worth booking for lunch as gets busy especially on cold days. Delicious food, reasonably priced (much better than the other places on the top plateau)

Best food in town - dinner is delicious but filling so be hungry or ask for shared portions. This is our favourite restaurant in town. The wines are a little expensive but delicious, service can be slow as only 'madam' talks to customers so be sure to catch her eye.

Family run place, always busy but always happy to fit in a last minute table. Not expensive, good local dishes, all French cuisine, affordable local wine list. Service surprisingly good given the number of tables!

Best bakery in town no question. Breads and tarts are all fabulous - top tip, there is also a branch at the bottom of the Grand Massif Express lift (opposite) where you can get filled baguettes and breakfast if you are hardcore and want to ski all day/snack on the lift!
