Sightseeing
The combination of crystal clear water and small swell to play in offers a fabulous day out on the beach. You can drive (4WD) onto the beach but are not allowed to camp there.
Fishing tip: In summer you can catch lots of fish off the beach; in winter you can find salmon in the shallows. Squid lurk off the rocky points.

Western River Cove is a small secluded bay near Gum Valley. Beach access is a walk from the car park and across the bridge so it is usually a lot less populated than the other northern beaches. It is ideal for small kids as it's well protected from the prevailing swell so generally very flat and clear.

Remarkable Rocks

Spectacular coastline and a must see as part of a Flinder's Chase visit. I always suggest you visit here first, before deciding to go to Seal Bay as the seals are usually there at no extra charge; close enough to see and hear (and smell!)...

The north coast beaches are spectacular but Stokes Bay is something special. You have to walk through a small crack in the rocky headland to get to the pristine beach, including an enclosed rockpool which is perfect for kids. Plenty of people have arrived at the carpark to this rocky, weedy bay and turned around not realising they needed to follow the path to see the actual beach.
Fishing tip: There is a protected boat ramp here but it involves a dogleg through shallow rock to get out into open water. It's not easy to navigate on your own unless you have done it before.

The nearest hotel/bottleshop and great for a local pub meal. The bottleshop is well stocked and it's owned by the community so well worth your support.

After closing due to the 2020 Bushfires and Covid, Rockpool is back and a great place to spend a lunch, followed by an afternoon on idyllic Stokes Bay beach.

Awesome place for lunch if you're getting supplies in Kingscote. It looks casual (and it is) but the food is excellent and the service is friendly.

This is the best take away Fish and Chip shop on KI and better than you'd expect to find in most coastal towns. Don't be fooled by it being on the side of Turner Fuels, they supply fresh locally caught fish and it's where the locals go...
