Activity

The legend is that the stonecutters struck an artesian spring on Friday and by Monday it was filled with water. The authorities couldn't keep the kids out so they quit trying and turned into an official swimming hole with lifeguards and diving boards. Check out the most unique swimming experience this side of Saint-Malo.

Follow the Buckeye Trail north from Peninsula to Boston. This is 4 miles out through stands of white pines, eastern hemlock and the standard northern deciduous forest. You have some elevation changes as the trail proceeds up to ridge tops and back down to cross streams. Get a map as there are a few intersecting trails that can mislead you. Follow the blue blazes. Once you get to the town of Boston, there is a park visitors center with water. You may return on the Towpath Trail for a change of scenery. Once you are in Boston, you may also take the side trip to Blue Hen Falls. This will add 2 miles to the journey. Ask a local how to find Buttermilk Falls. This is an unsanctioned hike.
