Food scene

The Longstore Steak & Seafood restaurant is a firm favourite of ours. The team, are lovely and there is a great variety of dishes (veggie/vegan options too) - they now offer a takeaway menu, Saturday brunch and Sunday roast alongside their weekly menu. Great spot for cocktails too. Booking is required. https://www.thelongstore.co.uk

Short & Strong is a coffee shop, beneath The Longstore and run by the same team - perfect for fresh coffee, cakes, ice-cream with views over the harbour. Our top tip is to arrive early on Saturday's to get their breakfast baps - delicious! But be warned they sell out super quickly. The vegan sausage rolls and cinnamon buns are also worth a try.

Kelly's of Cornwall ice-cream is proper Cornish! There is a tiny little ice-cream shop to the right of the harbour, which has been there for as long as I can remember (just down from the Longstore) - it is the real deal.

We're not short of pubs! St Austell's Brewery has The Rashleigh Arms and The Pier House - both great for a proper pint and nice pub food. The Harbourside is also a favourite watering hole with the locals. Charlie's Boathouse restaurant and bar is also open - with a nice outdoor space for dining/drinking too.

Art

Gemma Austin's gallery is a beautiful haven of calm, right next to the harbour. Great for discovering local artists, cards and gifts to take home.

Sightseeing

The Harbour itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the UK's only open, working 18th century port. It was formerly a busy China Clay port and today remains a popular filming location for movies & TV. Visitors can now walk, without charge, around the historic inner harbour walls - you can get up close to traditional wooden tall ships and there's some new food & drink pop-ups. The Rum Sailor (a little speakeasy style bar hidden in a former china clay dry) and HarbourQ (a smokin harbour BBQ) are our favourites. There are two beaches on either side of the harbour - the biggest is on the left hand side. Great for swimming. Sadly these beaches aren't dog friendly between April - October.

To the left of the Harbour, at the end fo Quay road's run of pretty cottages - you'll find a narrow walk way, which leads you onto the South West Coast Path. Take this walk over toward Carlyon Bay and Crinis beach. Wise to wear sensible shoes and note that the walk can be steep in places.

Just off Charlestown Road and below our house is the playing field. A nice wide open space - great for a picnic or playing games. There are some park swings etc for children too.
