Great hiking and amazing views at this Georgia State Park. One of the most spectacular canyons in the eastern U.S., Tallulah Gorge is two miles long and nearly 1,000 feet deep. Visitors can hike rim trails to several overlooks, or they can obtain a permit to hike to the gorge floor (100 per day, not available during water releases). A suspension bridge sways 80 feet above the rocky bottom, providing spectacular views of the river and waterfalls. Tightrope walkers have twice crossed the gorge, and visitors can still see towers used by Karl Wallenda. A paved path follows an on old railroad bed, perfect for strollers and bicycles, while mountain bikers can test their skills on a challenging 10 mile trail.

Caffé Rel, a Franklin bistro built into the side of a gas station, is a must stop for the foodie. Yes, you may stand in line outside in the Hot Spot (gas station) parking lot, because Caffé Rel does not take reservations, nor does it have a waiting area. No credit cards accepted means packing cash or a check, or a visit to the ATM in the adjacent gas station store. However, once you open the menu, you realize why this petite bistro has been working for chef/owner Richard E. Long. After 12 years in operation, the mystique lingers, and the kitchen continues to turn out French (and some Italian) cuisine for an ardent fan base of locals and adventurous diners. Check out their FaceBook page for hours and specials. Typically only open Wednesday-Saturday 11am-8:30pm https://www.facebook.com/CaffeRel/
