Welcome to Rio,
You are in Ipanema, the most charming neighbourhood in Rio, and two blocks away from Copacabana the most famous one. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipanema)
On the 60´s and 70´s Ipanema started to be known as the “Free republic of Ipanema”, the centre of intellectuals, new ideas, night life, restaurants and trend setting for Rio and Brasil.
The famous “Bossa Nova” music started in Copacabana, but it became sophisticated in Ipanema. Two blocks away Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes wrote the famous song “girl from Ipanema” sitting at a bar that still exists.
On Sundays at the square in front of the apartment, you have the “feira hippie”, an interesting crafts market. Ipanema has the most beautiful beach in a city of beautiful beaches. Check out the sunset from the Arpoador rocks on the left side of the beach. If you enjoy to swim and don´t like waves try the beach at “Posto 6”, a walking distance, on the right-hand side of Copacabana beach.
The best restaurants and shopping (Rua Garcia d´Avila, Rua Visconde de Pirajá) are here, and very nearby is the “Lagoa”, a lake to walk around and enjoy a cold coconut water.
The subway at your doorsteps is safe, and you can go around all Rio on it. Maybe a visit to the museums downtown Rio?

This is possibly the best seafood restaurant in Rio. A tad expensive (well depends on the exchange rate. Foreigners will think it is cheap) but it is worth every penny.
