Croydon, a short bus or train journey away, has something to suit everyone. Having undergone a recent and extensive refurbishment, it is now regarded as 'the second London'. There's a rich nightlife scene, a recently opened Boxpark, a wealth of transport links and a range of restaurants, pubs and bars to rival that of central London.

Croydon
Croydon, a short bus or train journey away, has something to suit everyone. Having undergone a recent and extensive refurbishment, it is now regarded as 'the second London'. There's a rich nightlife scene, a recently opened Boxpark, a wealth of transport links and a range of restaurants, pubs and bars to rival that of central London.
Thornton Heath has some of the best curry houses in South London. Kuku Kebab (a Pakistani grill house 2 minutes walk from house) do the finest kebabs in town, Desi Chaska is less than 5 minutes walk away and is run by one of the head chefs from Balham's award winning 'Dawat' restaurant, you have the Mirch Masala in Norbury (worth a Googlewhack!) and Karachi Cuisine (a little more expensive, but unrivalled in terms of food and customer service). You also have Sorento In which is one of the finest Italian restaurants in South London and Capadocia Ocakbasi (a Turkish barbecue joint), both of which are well worth a visit.

Bus stops are a 3 minute walk from the property where you'll find a range of services which will take you to Central London, Brixton, Croydon and further afield. Links can be found here: https://tfl.gov.uk/bus/stop/490013632J/thornton-heath-pond?lineId=289
Thornton Heath train station is a 15 minute walk away, or 2-3 minutes on a bus. There are regular trains to East and West Croydon (5-10 minutes), Clapham Junction (15 minutes), Victoria (20 minutes) and London Bridge (25 minutes) and everywhere in between. There's also an excellent tram service, nearest stop, West Croydon (short bus journey) and Therapia Lane (15 minute walk) which services much of South London. Links can be found here: https://tfl.gov.uk/tram/timetable/tram/
Finally, Forget taking a sightseer tour, the 159 bus (Streatham Common - a 10 minute bus journey away) travels past the most famous landmarks in London (including the Houses of Parliament). Make sure you travel on the top deck!

Public Transport
It's well worth purchasing an Oyster card (available from all public transport stations and any shopping outlet displaying the Oyster sign) in order to get around. These will get you on all forms of public transport, but don't forget to touch in! Not only do these give you an hour's unlimited transport on buses and trams for £1.50, but also access to a range of special offers on food, drink and entertainment.
