Sightseeing

Kalkara is a very quaint, small village. I personally really like it. There is a marina, a fort, Fort Rinella, worth a visit and a science centre, Explora. But even if you just do not have the time to visit them, strolling along the front and sipping a drink is very relaxing.

A visit to our Capital is a must. There is so much history and things to do in Valletta. You can either get a ferry boat from Sliema that will take you to Valletta. You can then either walk your way around Valletta or catch a small mini van that will take you to the centre. I would just walking to the Upper Barrakka Gardens and then take the lift down to the waterfront. From there you can catch the ferry that will take you to the 3 cities. The Three Cities are Birgu (Vittoriosa), Senglea (Isla) and Bormla (Cospicua). Birgu is the oldest of the Three Cities and existed well before the arrival of the Knights. It also the most popular town among the Three Cities due to its historical and cultural wealth.

I suggest you explore Birgu or Vittoriosa on foot. There are many restaurants on the waterfront. If you continue walking right past them, you will reach fort St. Angelo. This is a bastioned fort in Birgu, Malta, located at the centre of the Grand Harbour. It was originally built in the medieval period as a castle called the Castrum Mariso. If you continue turning left you will come to a private garage for the mansions. This private garage however allows passage way for people. Walk along it and you will see another lovely small village, Kalkara. The church is really lovely and you can have a quite coffee in the piazza. It is less crowded then the water front.
