I generally don’t recommend the typical tourist stuff to our guests, but a trip to Music City must include a tour of the historic Ryman Auditorium. The Ryman is known as the Mother Church of Country Music, and now hosts concerts by artists in virtually every genre. Originally a church, the hall was flawlessly restored to its original glory in the 80s. They have a terrific back stage tour that should not be missed. Open every day.

A personal favorite of mine. If you’ve seen those old, classic screen print concert posters , you’ve seen the work of Jim Sheridan and Hatch Show Prints. Hatch has been a Nashville original for decades, and was moved to the first floor of the Country Music Hall of Fame when it opened a few years ago. They still make the posters while you watch, the same way they made them when Elvis played the Ryman.

This is way more than a gift shop! If you’ve seen the beautiful National Parks posters with those awesome illustrations, you’ve seen the work of Joel Anderson. Joel and I have been friends since we both worked in the music business in the 80s, and the two autographed and framed posters in our dining area are his work. Joel was always a crazy talented illustrator, and now he is one of the most iconic visual artists of our time. The Spirit of Nashville gift ship is now his home base; he works upstairs and prints posters downstairs. With over 1000 works of art to pick from, you can’t go wrong picking up one (or more) of his astounding pieces on your visit to Nashville. If you’re lucky, Joel will be there and sign your posters! Tell him I said hello!
