This scenic lookout located in Cooee Bay gives 360 degree views of the Capricorn Coast and Keppel Bay. Only a short drive from Yeppoon town centre. In October 1848 the 62 ton transport schooner Selina was found waterlogged and dismasted, washed ashore near this point, by Captain Roach of the cutter Will-o’-the-Wisp. The Selina was built for Captain Deloitte of Sydney and launched in Brisbane in 1847. She had departed the Pine River north of Brisbane on 31 July bound for Sydney with a cargo of cedar logs and carrying a crew including Captain Cameron. Selina failed to arrive in Sydney and was not sighted again until she was found 15 months later near this spot, now known as Wreck Point. With the newly completed stage 2 features include a meandering 1.2 metres wide nature trail, featuring sandstone steps to a viewing platform positioned immediately above spectacular rocky point drop-off. The ‘shipwreck’ artwork is a central focus to the walking trail, which features an interpretive panel that tells the story of the Selina, the ship that was wrecked and found there in 1848, and after which Wreck Point was named.

The Singing Ship commemorates Captain Cook and his exploration of the bay in May, 1770. The monument represents the billowing sail, mast and rigging of his ship Endeavour. Concealed organ pipes use the sea breezes to create eerie music. A must visit on a windy day.

The memorial incorporates a boardwalk that hugs the coastline around to Emu Park's Singing Ship, where a viewing deck affords beautiful views over the Pacific Ocean. An enormous degree of care has gone into the creation of the memorial, right down to the inclusion of rosemary plants, which grow wild on the Gallipoli Peninsula. There is a gatehouse, which features a timeline honouring locals who lost their lives along with thousands of others during the First World War and it's lovely to note that the animals who died are remembered there too.

Voted by locals as the best coffee in town but does so much more than coffee. Only downside is, there are a few stairs to get to the attic. The Attic Espresso Bar is a vintage inspired hidden treasure in the heart of Yeppoon. To find the attic, venture down the alley, above the Crooked Cubby and turn right and go up the stairs. You can relax on the deck with a delicious coffee or take away and sit on the beach front and enjoy.

Festivals

Local Festivals and Events that bring people into our community
The Festival of the Wind is one of the most popular family kite festival in Australia. It is held around Easter when the winds are favourable and the large tides with the full moon lay bare large stretches of sand allowing room for both kite flying and beach activities. The Festival began in 1999 and now attracts internationally known kite designers from South Australia, Tasmania, New South Wales and the Gold Coast. These expert kite flyers are supported by enthusiastic members of the Queensland Kite Flyers society from Brisbane, Bundaberg, Gladstone and Rockhampton. Literally hundreds of kites launched from Fisherman’s Beach fill the sky to provide a thrilling spectacle; parents and grandparents are transported back to memories of childhood, flying kites when technology was simpler.
