Experience for ALL your senses!

Mona - the Museum of Old and New made headlines when it first opened in January of 2011… years on and the captivating headlines are yet to subside. This artsy building is even more impressive on the inside when you view the controversial, quirky and sometimes just downright crazy exhibitions on offer is the great all rounder experience for the senses - an absolute must do!! Live music on a Sunday afternoon is a particular favourite of ours, lounge around on the lawns on a brightly coloured beanbag in front of the stage with a Tasmanian cider in your hand!!! The museum itself is a monstrous eclectic collection of everything from ancient artefacts to a bubble car. It's also got soooo many gorgeous eating spots on the ground (we love every single one of them) Choose between brunch at the cafe or a uber fine dining experience on the water at Faro Restaurant.

FARO situated on the at MONA Museum ground is named for 'faro', the Spanish word for 'lighthouse', which is the English word for 'pharos', which is the Greek name of the new wing of their museum. Basically suspended over the water, this little hottie is a feast for your senses. A perfect way to finish a tour of the Mona Museum.

It’s all about the water views from this sweetly decorated café at the end of the famed Brooke Street Pier. Soak up the aquatic panorama as you hoover up a BSL Benny – slow-poached eggs with lemon and chive hollandaise, toasted brioche and locally smoked ham, YUM!

The Shot Tower circa 1870 is about 10 mins drive from our apartment. It's a cosy little place run by lovely people that live and breath the history of its origins. Take a walk up to the top and finish with the best scones and jam in the state!

Port Arthur and the Tasman Peninsular is a perfect day trip to do while staying with us. The world heritage listed Arthur Port Arthur is a village and historic site in southern Tasmania, an insight to Tasmania's dark history- Sitting on the Tasman Peninsula, it was a 19th-century convict penal settlement and is now an open-air museum. Ruins include the huge penitentiary and the remaining shell of the Convict Church, which was built by inmates. Solitary confinement cells in the Separate Prison building were used to inflict mental punishment in place of floggings. Entry also includes a boat cruise and tour. Port Arthur will take a large part of your day to walk around what was a large town. If you end up with extra time on your hands we also recommend a 20min coastal bushwalk to a shipwreck at the pristine Fortesque Bay or visit the Tessellated Pavement at Eagle Hawk Neck.

It’s only a 20min drive to the Ferry Terminal from our little apartment. An amazing coastal drive, climb the isthmus lookout track to see spectacular 360 views. Our favourite 1hour walk is the stunning Fluted Capes at Adventure Bay. More wineries per capita and of cause there’s a cheese and chocolate factory!!

This by far our favourite destination into Tasmanian pristine landscape. Fortesque Bay is a sheltered bay, featuring a beautiful white sandy beach that is set against forested hills and situated approx 20mins from the iconic Port Arthur Historic Site. Fortescue Bay is one of the main access points for Tasman National Park, encompassing the territory around Cape Raoul, Cape Hauy, Cape Pillar (home to the Three Capes Track), plus Tasman Island and up the rugged coast north to Eaglehawk Neck. Here you'll find the tallest sea cliffs in the southern hemisphere (300m!), while offshore, dolphins, seals, penguins and whales are regular passers-by. Our particular favourite walk is 20mins to a shipwreck, perfect snorkelling in the warmer months. Access is via a 12km bumpy gravel road which can be very rough at times (so check if your rental car is appropriate, SUV is optimum)
