My favorite spots
We lived in Mount Holly year round for a few years, and really came to love the area. There's so much to see and do!
An old country store that has become an epic destination - full of vintage games, toys and Vermont products, local cheeses, fudge and old fashioned candy. Stroll down memory lane while trying your hand at a game of "Operation;" sample some fudge, or find that perfect kitchen gadget or Vermont souvenir. Pop over to Bryant House for delicious lunch of New England clam chowder and a burger with Vermont Cheddar, and be sure to stop by the Christmas shop and country store across the street.

This gorgeous series of waterfalls and swimming holes is an amazing spot in summer, but also includes a short hiking trail that's great to visit in fall. A 5 minute drive from the house, just down Rte 103 in Ludlow.

Belmont Village is a quintessential Vermont Village, with small village green, church, country store, museums and a wonderful library and community center. The Mount Holly Community Association holds events throughout the year, including Cider Days, a Halloween party for families, and Christmas in Mount Holly.

Manchester is about 30 minutes away and is a wonderful day trip for shopping and exploring. Fabulous restaurants with sushi, Thai and local/american cuisine, among others, and the BEST independent bookstore around - Northshire Bookstore (with a schedule of author events etc).

"Whiskey, Guns & Ammo" is the sign across the front porch of this local gem but it's SO MUCH MORE! Some of the best meat around, along with an astounding array of high end, delicious smoked meats and cheeses, spices, seasonings, and wines. Also the only place I know where you can walk out with a bow and arrow, a bottle of fine French wine, and home made jerky. Be sure to visit the bees living in the shop, as well as Smokey, the owner's dog.

This may seem a little strange, but this tranquil spot has been the home of a group of Roman Catholic Benedictine monks for over 60 years. They have a wonderful gift shop, which includes art and maple syrup they make themselves, and anyone is welcome to join in the masses (often outside in a barn), and picnic near the pond. It's a lovely, peaceful, welcoming contemplative place.

Beautiful and tranquil - great spot for a short hike or a kayak. You'll often spot a family of Loons on the water.

Right down the road from the farm house is access to the Healdville Trail, which takes you up Mount Okemo. We actually like to get dropped at the top near the fire tower and walk down (it's about 3 miles or so).

Lovely dining room, fine art classes and, in winter SLEIGH RIDES, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing. About 40 minutes drive from the house, though Weston and down a long beautiful dirt road with beautiful views.

There's a great range of eating options a short distance from the farmhouse! You don't have to venture far to find great food. NOTE - since Covid, many restaurants are open only a few days a week. Be sure to check websites or call - and consider making reservations well in advance.
