PLACES TO SEE THINGS TO DO PLACES TO EAT

A lot of people do not realise just how big Skye is. 70 miles (approx) top to bottom 35 miles (approx) across. It does not sound very big, BUT when most of the places are down single track roads and its busy, places can take time getting to. Its not a problem because there is always the stunning Skye scenery to look at. To try and see the island properly in a couple of days is impossible. So if time is short, you need a plan / itinerary. At least then you can see some of the majestic island. Top Tip. If you want to see the Fairy Pools, Fairy Glen, Old Man of Storr or the Quiraing don't even think about a leisurely breakfast. You need to be up early to get there so you can park. OR if you are coming in May to July, go to these places late afternoon early evening. (We have virtually 24hr daylight during these months). There is something magical having a place to yourself, even for a few minutes. I had guests stay, who got up at 4.30am and were at the top of the Old Man of Storr before 7am and enjoyed the tranquility and solitude of the place. Skye is a place you will either love or hate there is no in-between. Every day every minute Skye will look different because of the light, clouds and weather. We can have 4 season in one day or even in an hour. It could be raining where you are staying and half a mile up the road it will be in sunshine. Skye to me is my home, my paradise my passion.
The drive down to Elgol is stunning. Plenty of views to stop and look at. It takes approx 2 hours to get to but is well worth it. You can take a boat trip into Loch Curusk, sit and watch the world go by on the beach. The "honeycomb" rockface along the beach is beautiful and a good place to have a picnic.

Great place to watch the sun set or see the Northern Lights. Trumpan church and grave yard is also very interesting. I have seen the White Tailed (Sea eagles) from here

If there was a law when visiting Skye it would be to see the Quiraing. You have not seen Skye until you have seen the Quiraing. Not to mention the loads of films it has featured in.

Most people will go to the the Fairy Pools and not bother with this beautiful beach which is on the same road as the Fairy Pools. The beach is never crowded its safe to swim. We have swam here and the dolphins have come to see us. MAGICAL. There is a campsite here toilets and shop. (open till August) For those of you who have seen the Danny MacAskill film The Ridge this is where Danny finishes his ride.

If you want a special night out Edinbane Lodge is the place to go. It is a dining experience. You are treated like royalty as soon as you walk through the door. The food is out of this world. They have just won "Best Newcomer Restaurant" in the whole of Scotland.

This is spectacular if its been raining. It is a hidden gem, that not many people go to, usually only locals. Set in the middle of woods you would not know this place exists.
